The North American Thoroughbred Society (NATBS) works to recognize and promote Thoroughbred horses by creating community for English and Western owners and riders, fostering recreational
and horse show activities, and providing resources. NATBS award programs reward Thoroughbreds for participation and achievement across "all" English and Western equine disciplines.
The breed registry for North American Thoroughbreds is The Jockey Club. NATBS, a breed-specific sponsoring organization, defers to the Thoroughbred's birth registry identification number; birth registry paperwork; and, where ever possible, the birth registry rule book. It is in this way each individual, whether or not the Thoroughbred's name has been changed, can be recognized internationally as well as nationally.
